Best Take is a living-room party game for Apple TV. The app does not create accounts, show ads, use analytics SDKs, track users, or sell personal information.
Information Used During Play
In public voting mode, gameplay stays on the Apple TV. In private phone voting mode, players enter a nickname and pick an avatar so the TV can match phones to players. Each phone sends its votes to the Apple TV, which works out the scores; the TV never shows who gave which score. Nicknames, avatars, votes, questions and room state pass through the Best Take relay at join.playbesttake.com, over an encrypted connection, only to run the game.
What Is Kept, And For How Long
- On the Apple TV: players, votes and scores are kept in the app's memory while you play, and are gone when you start a new game or close the app. None of them is saved. The app saves only two things: which question packs you've already looked at, so it can mark new ones, and which questions each pack has already dealt, so the next game doesn't repeat them. Neither records who played or what anyone said.
- On the relay: nicknames, avatars and votes are held in memory while a room is open, and are not written to storage. The only thing the relay stores is a random key that shows which Apple TV owns a room. It is kept while that Apple TV stays connected, and deleted within 24 hours after it stops using the room.
- On each phone: the browser saves a random ID for each room code, so a phone that reloads the page can take its seat back. It has no expiry and is not linked to you outside the game. To remove it, clear the website data for join.playbesttake.com in your browser's settings.
- Cloudflare, which hosts the relay: Best Take keeps no log of relay requests. Cloudflare sees each phone's IP address in order to deliver its traffic, and uses it to limit how many requests one address can make, so no one can flood the relay. If an address goes over that limit and is blocked, Cloudflare keeps a record of the block for up to 24 hours: the IP address, the address requested (which includes the room code), the time, and the browser and country it came from. Best Take also sees totals of requests and errors, which identify no one. None of this ever contains nicknames or votes.
Data Sharing
Best Take does not share gameplay data with advertisers or data brokers, and does not use it for advertising or tracking. Cloudflare processes relay traffic as the hosting provider needed to run private phone voting.
Children And Families
Best Take is intended as a party game. Players should use nicknames rather than legal names when joining from phones.
Deleting Your Information
Nothing is linked to an account, and the relay does not store nicknames or votes, so there is nothing kept after a game for us to delete. The phone's room ID can be cleared as described above. For any other privacy request, email us.
